The Birth of P2SUP
I live in Bend, Oregon. It’s a town full of beer, dogs, bikes, stand up paddling – and YOGA! It’s an incredible place to live life as an adventure, trying everything and playing outside. So, of course, when SUP Yoga hit my radar about 4 years ago I had to try. After dabbling at yoga for a few years I had a pretty solid grasp on balance and flexibility for a 60+ person. I was a confident paddler as well. So one calm day on Hosmer Lake I played at Warrior II and Triangle pose. The photo might look steady – but I held that pose for a nano second to avoid an immediate dunk into cold water. Still, I really enjoyed the process.
After a particularly awesome class at Groove Yoga with Cynthia LaRoche I had an epiphany – what if there was a way to “marry” SUP and yoga? Could the process of stand up paddling be the asana, the movement practice aspect of yoga? Could we create a powerful collection of excellent guided meditations to accompany a paddle session so that the resulting experience delivered the best of both? Fast forward to Summer 2014 and I was still dabbling at yoga poses on my stand up board, but realizing that in my efforts at those poses I didn’t have the ability to practice breath awareness or mindfulness/presence that a traditional yoga class delivered. In fact, while working to execute a pose, like a rickety Bridge, on my SUP board I actually held my breath and focused only on the shaking of both my board and my muscles. I was having fun but I wasn’t experiencing the “yoga” that meant so much to me.
Over the 10 months between September 2014 and June 2015 Cynthia and I collaborated in a way that tapped in to the expertise we each brought to the project – and the result is the development of the “Power of Presence SUP” program. Through a web-based community filled with relevant information and stories we can connect with YOU. Our first bundle of guided meditations that deliver the P2SUP magic are available on our store.
Testimonials, stories, and an ever-growing collection of P2SUP meditations (all aligned with one of the 7 Chakras) can change the way any one, of any ability at either SUP or yoga, becomes more mindful and present.Welcome – and please share you questions or comments
